The Manchester Crematorium

The Manchester Crematorium was the first crematorium in the country, opening its doors back in 1892. The crematorium offers two chapels, the New Chapel and the Old Chapel.
The New Chapel seats around 60 mourners comfortably and offers a modern style sitting. The New Chapel offers a hearing loop system, a traditional organ is available as well as a modern music system.
The Old Chapel boasts an impressive seating space of around 120 mourners and is viewed as a traditional style setting, with red carpets and mahogany style wall cladding in areas. The Old Chapel also provides a hearing loop system in addition to a modern style music system to be used when funeral services are taking place.

Blackley Crematorium
Operator: Manchester City Council

Time allowance: 30 minutes
Blackley Crematorium opened in 1953 within the grounds of a farm, which was also a golf course at one point. Blackley Crematorium is one of the most affordable crematoriums in Manchester, boasting 3 chapels of a reasonable size.
Arranging funeral services at Blackley Crematorium is a simple process and often, their availability and flexibility to time is known to be the best in the industry.

Dukinfield Crematorium
Operator: Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council
Fee: £715 (resident fee)
Time allowance: 30 minutes
Dukinfield Crematorium is one of the busiest crematoriums within Manchester and Tameside. The crematorium averages between 10 to 12 funeral services a day attracting families and funeral directors from a variety of areas. Currently the crematorium operates one chapel seating between 80 and 100 people – including the overflow chapel which provides additional seating accompanied by a screen and audio system.

Agecroft Crematorium

Time allowance: 40 minutes
Agecroft Crematorium opened its doors back in 1903. Prior to operating as a crematorium, the chapel was formally the old None-Conformist burial chapel, but it was converted into a crematorium back in January 1957. The crematorium chapel boats a seating capacity of 80 mourners and offers wheelchair access also. Maps are available online which are helpful when finding burial plots and the crematorium chapel.

Hollinwood (Oldham) Crematorium

Time allowance: 30 minutes
Oldham Crematorium opened to the public in 1953 and is situated within the grounds of Hollinwood Cemetery. The crematorium has capacity to hold around 180 mourners. The crematorium also offers disabled access. When seated within the crematorium you’re presented with a glass wall to the right, facing a small pond of ducks. This creates a relaxing and natural atmosphere whilst celebrating your loved one’s life during the funeral service.

Stockport Crematorium
Operator: Dignity Plc
Fee: £675
Time allowance: 45 minutes
Stockport Crematorium is owned and operated by Dignity Plc and was previously owned by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. The crematorium has two chapels available for funeral services, The Rowan chapel and Cypress chapel.
The Rowan Chapel
The Rowan Chapel is the newest chapel at Stockport Crematorium, opening its doors in March 2005. The crematorium seats around 90 mourners and boasts a modern environment. The Rowan Chapel offers a digital music system enabling your funeral director to book the funeral music directly and remotely.
The Cypress Chapel
The Cypress Chapel is the oldest and original chapel at the crematorium and seats around 90 mourners as with the Rowan Chapel. The Cypress Chapel is more traditionally styled.
